Disability Services

Programs of Catholic Charities Maine work with blind and visually impaired children as well as disabled individuals to provide them the support and services they need to live full, productive lives.

Services include direct instruction to blind/visually impaired children and consultation to parents and school personnel regarding the child's needs. They also include assisting persons recently discharged from the hospital, as well as the frail, elderly, and those living with disabilities and long term illness.

Education Services for Blind & Impaired Children

Education Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Children is a statewide service of Catholic Charities Maine providing assessment, instruction and consultation to blind and visually impaired children, their parents and school personnel.

Home & Family Services

Provides homemaking services to allow elderly clients, disabled individuals, and families in crisis to remain in their homes. Also helps families needing support with parenting skills and child rearing. Services include grocery shopping, laundry and errands, light house cleaning, household management, emotional support, parenting skills, and occasional respite care.

Parish Inclusion Ministry

The Parish Inclusion Ministry of Catholic Charities Maine Parish Social Ministry seeks to promote caring and inclusive congregations where people of all ages and abilities can participate. The ministry assists parishes and parish clusters in this important mission in several ways:

Acts as a resource to identify educational programs, events, trainings and workshops for those who are physically, emotionally and mentally challenged, their families and parish ministers.

Supports the SPRED program in parishes where it is in place.

Encourages parishes and parish clusters to celebrate special liturgies for those with special needs.

Fosters a deepened awareness within faith communities of the gifts parishioners with various disabilities bring to us and how to involve them more fully in Church life.

Networks with educational and advocacy groups within the disabilities community to promote ongoing awareness.
